It is with great sadness that we announce that Margaret Ashby, aged 80, passed away on Monday afternoon 8th March 2021. She died unexpectedly at the Lister Hospital, Stevenage, after a short illness, although she had been battling cancer for a number of years. Margaret, together with Revd. Mervyn Terrett were the founding members of the Betty Game Opportunities Trust which is named after Margaret’s good friend and companion Betty who died in 2009.

Margaret was a local historian who wrote many books about Stevenage. She was also the co-founder of the Friends of Forster Country, and helped start the Friends of Holy Trinity in Stevenage Old Town. Margaret will be much missed by her many friends and especially the Betty Game Opportunities Trust. It was her dearest wish that the Trust would continue after her death and carry on its support for learners who, like Betty, decide to return to education later on in life. A private funeral is to be held and a memorial service will take place at Holy Trinity Church, later this year, when bigger gatherings are allowed.
